Learn more about our team

Dr Alexandra Whan BVSc (Hons) - Head Veterinarian

Alex studied Veterinary Science at Melbourne University and graduated in 1998. Alex spent her first years of practice living down in sunny Warrnambool as a dairy cow veterinarian. She settled in North Fitzroy after spending 3 years working and travelling overseas. Alex made the move to the brand new Brunswick Central Veterinary Clinic after working at our sister clinic Fitzroy Veterinary Hospital for 3 years. You might see Alex in the local parks with her very 'energetic' dogs Jasper, Tucker and the "naughty" Ned. Alex and her partner Kat also have two cats Jed and Jemima at home - so it is a very busy little terrace. Alex has an interest in small animal medicine as well as soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Dr Zoe Cutcher - Veterinarian

Dr Zoe Cutcher joined our veterinarian team in August 2010. In 2004, she graduated from Sydney University and spent her first year of practice working in dairy medicine in South Gippsland. Since then she has worked in small animal practices in both Melbourne and the UK.

Dr Zoe has a special interest in internal medicine, particularly feline, and is looking forward to working in partnership with all of our clients to achieve the best standards of care for our pets. She has recently adopted a little rescue kitten called Quentin who is keeping her on her toes.

Dr Thulasi Sarvananthar (Dr Thulz for short) - Veterinarian

Dr Thulz graduated from Murdoch University in Perth in 2008. She spent her first 2 years as a new graduate in a small animal practice in Gippsland before moving to Melbourne and spending 3 weeks travelling parts of Ireland and Spain.

In August 2011, Dr Thulz joined the Brunswick Central Vet Clinic as one of our full time veterinarians. Dr Thulz has a special interest in reptiles and birds, and is keen to meet all of our clients and their wonderful pets, furry, feathery and leathery!

Katie Robbins CVN - Nursing Manager

Katie Robbins has been a veterinary nurse since 2002. She joined the team at Fitzroy Veterinary Hospital in November 2004 before taking on the Nursing Manager position at Brunswick Central Veterinary Clinic in January 2008. Before starting nursing, Katie completed a Bachelor of Applied Animal Science in Aquatic Science at Deakin University, Warrnambool and in June 2009 she completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

At home Katie has two cats - "Rosie" who came from our kitten adoption program and "Lily" a blue point Siamese. Lily was left abandoned on our doorstep at Fitzroy Veterinary Hospital and Katie was kind enough to give her a new home (really how could she resist!) Katie's main areas of interest are providing excellence in customer service and clinical rehabilitation of patients after surgery or hospitalisation.

Laura Fratantaro - Veterinary Nurse

Laura first realised that she wanted to be a veterinary nurse when she was on a trip to New Zealand. It was the sight of a sad Border Collie sitting on the back of a ute with a little pile of snow on his head that encouraged Laura to begin her study towards becoming a qualified veterinary nurse. She studied her Certificate II in Animal Studies and Certificate III in Companion Animal Services on a part time basis whilst working in a pet shop. The following year she began her first job in a mixed practice as a veterinary nurse.

Laura then volunteered at a wildlife rescue centre for three months overseas before travelling around the UK and Italy. After this, she moved back to Melbourne where she is currently working at our clinic. Laura had been working as a locum nurse for a year, and is now working full time at Brunswick Central Vet Clinic.

Laura's interests include playing guitar and singing, going to music gigs, getting crafty, cooking, travelling and learning Italian. She looks forward to working with the team in our newly renovated clinic and meeting our clients and their pets.

Simone Angus - Veterinary Nurse/ Puppy Pre-School Trainer

Simone joined the Brunswick Central Veterinary Clinic team in late December 2009. She is currently studying for her Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing, with a goal to become a qualified veterinary nurse at the clinic. Simone is also our Puppy Pre-School trainer. She enjoys meeting and talking to all of our furry friends and their parents.

At home Simone has two energetic dogs, "Mister" a cheeky Fox Terrier Cross and "Gemma" a sweet but clumsy Labrador cross Staffy.

Merissa Govers - Veterinary Nurse/ Cattery Manager

Merissa joined the team at Brunswick Central Veterinary Clinic in October 2009 as a Cattery Attendant in our 'Cats in the City' cattery. A few months later she started training as a veterinary nurse and in 2010 she took on the role as Cattery Manager. Merissa completed her Diploma in Animal Technology in 2010 and her Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing in 2011. She is currently undertaking her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

Outside of work Merissa enjoys playing with her boisterous Labradors, Mr Wilson and Harley D, and also cuddling up on a couch with her three cats Oscar, Ralphy and Maxwell. Ralph and Maxwell were adoption cats at the clinic that Merissa couldn't resist.

Georgina Adler - Trainee Veterinary Nurse/ Cattery Attendant

Georgie started working in our 'Cats in the City' cattery in January 2008 and began her training as a veterinary nurse at the end of 2011. She also attends Melbourne University where she is studying for her Bachelor of Applied Science degree. Being a local girl, Georgie can often be seen around Brunswick walking her two bouncy, lovable Labradors Rhombus and Indy.

Georgie prides herself on taking extra special care of our feline friends when they come to stay. You can be assured that when your kitty comes to stay with us that they will be receiving extra love and attention.
